Being a female and a big Braves fan, I was extremely excited to hear that Javy Lopez was coming back to the Braves. He works hard. He's a good person. And he looks good in that uniform! All the reports say that he is in great shape after taking last year off and working out with a personal trainer. I'm rooting for him. He lives here in Atlanta and he's a family man who wants to be near his kids. He's been working with a catching coach for the last 2 months and he seems determined to make a comeback. What a great year this could be with Tom Glavine and Javy Lopez both returning. (Of course Javy still has to make the team in Spring Training.)
Enough on the Braves. Now for the bad news. My Steelers went down hard in that game Saturday night to the Jags. I thought we had a chance when we went up by 3 but the Jags made a good comeback. Somewhere we need to get some players who can take care of the football - 3 interceptions and a fumble - that's a little too much to swallow. Of course in Ben's defense, he had no running game and had to completely carry the offense himself. That's a lot to expect in a playoff game. The worst play of the night wasn't an interception or a fumble but was running a quarterback draw on 3rd-and-6 with Pittsburgh leading by one with just over three minutes to go -- that was the worst of the bunch.
If you think I've been a little hard on Ben then try on these statistics:
Ben was sacked a total of 46 times during the regular season, which is a dismal statistic in itself. However, in spite of that, he still managed to throw 32 touchdown passes, a team record, and he ended the season with a passer rating of 104.1. That rating was second in the league only to Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. With a quarterback like Ben Roethlisberger on your roster, there is hope for next year. Let's just pray that we can find some pass protection in the offseason.
